NCRA endorses Indie Music Month

MONTREAL - The National Campus and Community Radio Association has announced its endorsement of Independent Music Month (IMM), an initiative fostered by Indie Pool (Canada) Inc. and supported by Canadian Satellite Radio's national talent development commitment.

IMM is a music industry education seminar series travelling from St. John's to Victoria (and more than 25 points in between). This unprecedented regional outreach will bring the music industry to tens of thousands of independent musicians across the country, many of whom don't get to our music industry centres in Toronto or Montreal.

In announcing their support, Melissa Kaestner (national coordinator for the NCRA) stated "It is a unique project that not only provides the keys to opening doors that artists are not even aware exist, but it will also provide inspiration and confidence to a vast pool of young and emerging talent in this country. We believe that IMM is a fantastic initiative as it gives access to information, resources and opportunities that these artists would no normally have access to. And aside from the content of the IMM workshops, any chance for the artists to come together is chance to further build the independent artist community, both locally and nationally."

The NCRA has pledged to assist with advertising, promotion and acting as a liaison between IMM and campus and community stations across Canada. A delighted Gregg Terrence, President of Indie Pool Inc., declared "we are looking forward to working with the NCRA on this groundbreaking project. We are confident that it will provide increased awareness for the too often overlooked indie artists who are making a vital ongoing contribution to Canada's cultural fabric".
